CoCo Cord Kimonos are the perfect little wraps to corral those loose cords and cables. The pattern is by Lazy Girl Designs and is part of the Lazy Girl Littles line of patterns. The pattern itself is printed in full color on an 8.5” x 11” sheet of glossy paper and then folded in quarters. Like most patterns, the front cover is a full-color picture of the finished product. The back cover is a list of materials required to complete four kimonos.
For the kimonos shown in the pictures, I used the following materials:
- 1 fat quarter Benartex Botanica Swirls in Black
- 1 fat quarter Michael Miller Black and White Plus One in White
- 2 – 10” squares of Wonder Under (pattern recommends Fusi-Bond Lite)
- 1 – 10” square of Peltex 70 Ultra Firm Sew In stabilizer (pattern recommends Lazy Girl Stiff Stuff)
- 4 – 5/8” white buttons
- 1yd -white waxed hemp cord
- Thread
I also used the following tools:
- Clover Finger Presser Tool
- Olfa Circle Cutter Tool
Inside, the instructions are clearly written in a reasonable sized font. The steps are not numbered, but I found them easy to follow as they move left to right and top to bottom. Diagrams are well labelled and easy to follow. The author, Joan Hawley, did a great job covering the little details that make project completion go smoothly. For instance, the author includes the stitch with and length for finishing the edge of the project and the proper starting needle position for the most success.
Once I pulled all the supplies together, the whole project took me about an hour. One 10” fabric sandwich made four kimonos (1 – 5 ½”, 1 – 4 ½”, and 2 – 3 ½”). The smallest size is perfect for my cell phone charging cords. The largest works well for my sewing machine cord.
A very experienced sewist might not need a pattern for such a simple project, but if you are like me and need to see pictures of how things are supposed to be sewn together, this simply written pattern is a great help. I will definitely make this project again and feel at $6.95 retail the pattern was worth the money.
